VENUE TRAINING SERVICES
The Melbourne School of Sport and Recreation Management has developed Venue Training Services for leisure centres and community recreation facilities in order to achieve consistency and efficiency in the delivery of training to staff.

The Venue Training Services are based on the Venue Training Pyramid which consists of four levels:

Compliance Training
(Training required by regulation)
Examples:

  • Pool Life Guard Updates
  • Emergency Asthma Management Updates
  • Senior First Aid Updates
  • Induction
  • Firewarden
  • CPR Updates

Essentials Training
(Linked to achieving key business objectives)
Examples:

  • Customer Service for Facilities
  • Negotiation & Influencing Skills for Managers
  • Sales Skills
  • Performance Management

Needs Based Training
(Conducted on an as needed basis)
Examples:

  • Auslan (Deaflympics)
  • Point of Sale Software System Update
  • Issues/Incident based

Ongoing P.D. Training
(To meet staff development requirements)
Examples:

  • Management Essentials Program
  • Industry Seminars
  • TAFE and University degrees
  • Short courses
  • Conferences

Through MSSRM being responsible for the co-ordination and monitoring of training in a venue, MSSRM's Venue Training Services provide venues with the following key benefits:

  • Consistency in training delivered across all venue staff
  • Control of content and quality of training delivered
  • Reduced costs and ease of rostering due to efficient planning
  • Forward planning of training (1yr training plan per staff member)
  • Closer monitoring of training undertaken and expiry of certificates
